Richard’s talent for engineering lay hidden for many years as he toiled away down in the earth for various mining concerns across the country. When his company bought a new-fangled steam-powered mining machine, the thing constantly leaked, broke down, and was more of a menace that it was a help. Having a talent for tools and devices, Richard was tasked with fixing the thing, but ended up cannibalizing it for his custom mining gear. But, before he could put his designs into mass production, the zombie apocalypse came to call.
