Fred

Fred – Doctor

“Not everyone can be saved, so let’s focus on the ones who can.”

Fred was eighteen hours into a Bastille Day shift at the Hôtel-Dieu, the oldest hospital in Paris, when the waiting room started biting. July 14th is always his worst day of the year, all fireworks burns and tourists who tried to climb lampposts. Nobody warned him about patients who sit up after he’s called the time of death. He kept his bone saw and his amputation knife, and his hands are as steady as they were in the operating room. The anesthetic ran out on day two. Fred still patches up whoever’s bleeding between fights, and he drags anyone who goes down out of harm’s way before he’s done swearing at them.
