Nadia runs acquisitions for a firm whose name you’d recognize and whose balance sheet you’d rather not read. She has closed deals in six time zones on four hours’ sleep, and she has always done her best work after midnight, which helps now that the streetlights are out. Her handbag still holds her tablet and the floor plans for a building she was meant to buy on Monday. Since Tuesday it also holds spare magazines. Nobody at the office knew she spent her weekends at a shooting club. They put her success down to luck. They were half right.
